The Noose Tightens (2)

Well, so much for transparency, more liberalisation, better governance, etc. etc. and all the usual bull that follows a change of leadership. Hardly 30 days into the new "era" the new broom is working overtime - sweeping clean and almost too eager to sweep up everything that obstructs its path.

Malaysiakini reports that as of this evening, Mat Sabu, PAS vice-president, was arrested about 3 p.m. as he was leaving a restaurant to go to the Harakah office nearby in Jalan Pahang Barat, Kuala Lumpur.

Mat Sabu's arrest follows closely on the heels of yesterday's detention of Wong Chin Huat, spokesman for the reform group, Bersih.

Blogger Nate Tan has more to say here.

And read how 3 persons were arrested for sending a birthday cake to the PM!

Follow the developments online here, here and here.

Pray for those arrested and this nation - wherever you are.

Cowardice asks the question, “Is it safe?” Expediency asks the question, “Is it politic?” And Vanity comes along and asks the question, “Is it popular?” But Conscience asks the question “Is it right?” And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must do it because Conscience tells him it is right. - Martin Luther King
