Herald can use "Allah" BUT....


The Nut Graph, another local alternative online newspaper, outlines the latest in the Catholic Herald's tussle with the Home Ministry on the use of the word "Allah" in its publications.

While at first glance it seems a welcome decision, the conditions attached merely reflect more restrictions on Christian publications in Bahasa Malaysia. This latest directive is, to say the least, confusing, unnecessary, and in a larger context, even unconstitutional.

The government has gazetted a ruling that prohibits Christian publications from using the word "Allah", unless they carry the disclaimer "For Christianity" on their front covers.
