A Tale of Two Malaysias

The following two "kisah benars" highlight the fact of the reality of "two Malaysias": One for all the ones having the right connections, while those under the unfortunate other being left to their own devices.

1. I remember studying that in business it's "not what you know but who you know" that will ultimately define you as a successful entrepreneur or not. But, here in Bolehland, that business fact has been taken to extremes, like what P. Gunasegaran, managing editor of the Star comments in his latest column "A Question of business" here.

while in the other Malaysia,

2. Raja Petra writes a passionate plea for help for his latest cause: A family known to him personally struggling barely to keep alive. The father has just suffered a severe heart attack, while the mother has been diagnosed for cancer. In RPK's own words:

The family will need RM116,000.00 for their medical costs and there is no way they can manage this on their own. I appeal, therefore, to all Malaysians to come forward and help this activist family who did so much and worked very hard these last couple of years to contribute to a better Malaysia. They have done their bit for this country. It is now time we did our bit for them. To those who desire to contribute to this cause of mine, the bank account of their son, KEVIN A/L MICHAL JOSEPH, is 1124-4704-3083 (Maybank).
