A Tale of Two Value Systems

I got this from my church's weekly bulletin (edited):

1. Values of the World

• Blessed are the rich and comfortable
• Blessed are the tough
• Blessed are they whose every want is satisfied
• Blessed are they who get even
• Blessed are you when they accept you and pamper you
• Look out for youself, nobody else will
• Avoid pain and suffering at all costs
• Success is the name of the game, else you are a loser
• The only way to peace is to have more and better weapons
• Go to church and keep up the appearances but don't be a religious freak

2. Values of the Gospel

• Blessed are the poor in spirit
• Blessed are the meek
• Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for what is right
• Blessed are the merciful
• Blessed are you when they insult and persecute you
• Give and it will be given to you in good measure
• Take up your cross each day and follow me
• What would you profit if you gained the whole world but forfeited your life?
• All who take up the sword will perish by the sword
• Love the Lord your God with all your heart...and with all your mind
